History

Weltec Engineering was established in Waterford, Ireland in 2000 and has grown steadily since then in size and reputation as a leading mechanical, electrical and process engineering and contracting company.

 Our experience has developed from originally doing only MEP contracting to offering full turnkey and design and build solutions. Therefore accommodating all construction activities including Design, CSA and MEP on existing and new installations.

The company was founded and is managed by engineers who have a “hands on” approach to project delivery and the key aspects safety and quality management.

With offices in Waterford, Dublin, Cork and London and more than 200 directly employed skilled tradespeople, our business model has evolved to meet the requirements of our blue chip Client base and repeat Customers.

Quality Assurance

At Weltec our quality management system is our guarantee of the highest quality standards across all disciplines and all projects.   Underpinned by our Core Values of Preparation, Exceeding Expectations and Continual Improvement our people strive to ensure our clients always receive the highest quality services and workmanship.

Our system is independently certified by NSAI to ISO9001:20015 standards. This means we have independently-verified quality system in place across all our projects, from the quality plan, test and inspection matrix, installation checks, materials receipt verification, materials and work traceability, red lines, walkdowns, testing, commissioning to final handover.

Digital QA

At Weltec we have embraced the advantages of the digital age, integrating internet and mobile technology into our construction quality control plans.   As all projects move from paper drawings and documentation to digital and internet technology, quality assurance and quality control have become more effective and better at mitigating risks than ever before.

We have made major investments in digital construction processes including BIM, Contract Management software system and test pack generation software for all our projects. Along with improving overall project efficiency and quality this also provides greater visibility and traceability for clients throughout the entire construction build process.

At Weltec we recognize the responsibility placed upon all of us to protect and enhance the environment for future generations.   As an Engineering and Construction company we have an important role to play to help ensure the long-term sustainability of the construction industry.

We are committed to taking account of all the possible environmental implications of our project work and to ensure that potential adverse environmental impacts are comprehensively risk assessed, mitigation steps taken and opportunities for delivering environmental improvements are maximised.

We recognise the value inherent in the design and construction of sustainable engineering projects and where possible support the integration of sustainability into the building and engineering design process.

We have considerable experience in delivering BREEAM and LEED accredited buildings.  

We are accredited to internationally recognised ISO 14001 Environment Management System (EMS) a systematic framework to manage the immediate and long term environmental impacts of an organisation’s products, services and processes.

Gerard O’Leary

Managing Director

Gerard is the Managing Director and one of the original founders of Weltec Engineering in Waterford over 20 years ago. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from CIT and a Masters in Business Administration from UCC. He has 30 years experience in the engineering and construction industries and has been instrumental in the development of the company into a leading engineering and process contractor.

Shane Ryan

Operations Director

Shane holds a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from UL and as Operations Director he is centrally involved in the direction and execution of all construction operations. He focuses on assembling multi-disciplinary teams to deliver large-scale complex turnkey projects and creating sustainable ongoing partnerships. He has extensive engineering and project management experience across different sectors including Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, Industrial and Food.

James Hackett

EHS Director

James is EHS Director and holds a BSc in Management and a H-Dip in Health, Safety & Welfare at Work from UCC. Working closely with the operations director, general manager and contract managers, James has full responsibility all EHS activities and resources across the company. James has been instrumental in directing the company to achieving world-class EHS practices, which have been recognised by NISO with the company winning the All Ireland Presidents Safety Award for Large Organisations for the second time in three years, the Bronze Award twice in 4 years and the overall All Ireland Gold Award in 2021. 

Lorraine Clooney

Finance Manger

Lorraine is the company Finance Manager with overall responsibility for the FInance Team. Lorraine has worked in finance in the multinational Private Healthcare industry in both the UK and Ireland and she has worked in the Construction industry for the past 15 years. As Finance Manager, her role covers financial reporting, project-specific cash flow reporting, maintaining credit, preparing annual budgets, and tracking budget progress throughout the financial year.

Bríd Duffy

Procurement Manager

Bríd is the Weltec Procurement Manager with over 20 years’ experience in the M&E Construction Industry. She joined Weltec in 2001, and has gained extensive knowledge in Project Management, Relationship Management and Negotiating Skills across different sectors including Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, Industrial and Food.  Bríd holds a Bachelor of Business in Industrial Purchasing from ITC and a Masters in Personal and Management Coaching from UCC.

Joe McGivney

General Manager, Electrical

Joe is a IPMA certified Project Manager and as General Manager Joe takes a key role in project proposals, project development, construction operations, and communication with all key stakeholders. He applies his extensive engineering and project management experience acquired over his 40 year successful career. He has delivered complex projects across many sectors including Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, ICT Manufacturing and Healthcare.

TJ Phelan

General Manager Mechanical

TJ is an IPMA Project Manager with 30+ years experience in the industry. TJ joined the team in 1995. He has been responsible for projects in our key sectors – Pharmaceutical, Life Science, Healthcare and Commercial. TJ has managed and developed teams in both Mechanical and Main Contractor Roles. He is responsible for understanding and managing both internal and external Stakeholder needs.

John Murphy

Quality Director

John is the company Quality Director with overall responsibility for all Quality activities and resources. He is hugely experienced, having worked for many years in the Pharma and Manufacturing before joining Weltec in 2014. He holds qualifications in Chemistry, Quality Assurance, a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a Masters in Business Administration.  He has been instrumental in the company’s continuous implementation of new and improved quality standards across all engineering and construction activities. He has also been the key driver in ensuring we fully understand our customer expectations and needs and that we have developed and implemented the quality control processes to meet and exceed these expectations.

Greg Quinlan

Proposals Manager

Greg’s role involves overseeing and managing the estimating department and new business development. He is involved with the reviewing of cost plans, undertaking value engineering, cost saving, reviewing of tender information, tender risk analysis, pre and post tender meetings with clients including clarification and contract negotiation meetings. He has extensive engineering and proposals experience across different sectors including Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, Industrial and Food.

Padraig O'Mahony

Engineering Manager

Padraig is the Engineering Manager and holds an Honours Degree in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering. Padraig has over 20 years of experience in the Construction Industry across various sectors including Semi-Conductor, Pharmaceutical, Commercial & Healthcare. He started his career as a Graduate Engineer, moving on to Contract Management with Weltec before becoming Engineering Manager in January 2020. He is the Head of our Engineering Department with overall responsibility for Engineering support and Offsite Manufacturing (OSM).

Eddie Hynes

Commercial Manager CSA/MC

Eddie is the CSA / MC Commercial Manager responsible for managing all commercial aspects of Main Contracting Projects from project estimating, value engineering, advise on procurement route through to final account settlement. Providing clients with real-time cost control and budgeting advise on a range of sectors including Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences. Eddie holds qualifications in Construction Technology and Management, Quantity Surveying and more recently has completed a Level 8 Special Purpose Award in M&E Quantity Surveying.

Andrew Hynes

Accounts Manager

Andrew is the Accounts Manager and holds a Bachelor of Business honours degree from WIT and is a qualified accountant with Chartered Accountants Ireland. Andrew trained as an auditor in one of the Big 4 accounting firms and then moved to the transport industry for several years. His role involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable and leasing with the Procurement, Commercial and HR departments.

David O'Connor

HR Advancement Manager

David is the HR Advancement Manager and holds a Degree in HR and Level 9 awarded from the Institute of Leadership and Management. He is a self-motivated Human Resources professional with over 20 years’ experience in industrial relations practices and employee relations within the manufacturing and construction industry. Working closely with the senior leadership team in Weltec, David is adept at planning, building relationships, implementing development programs and innovating change that enhance the company’s core values and aid the development of their people.

Darragh Martin

Marketing Manager

Darragh is responsible for developing and implementing the company’s marketing strategy and enhancing our client relationships. Darragh is an experienced marketing and business development professional with experience across the traditional marketing communications industry and construction industry. Along with his marketing credentials, Darragh also holds a a Masters in Business Administration from UCC.

Trevor McPhillips

Commercial Manager M&E

Trevor is the M&E Commercial Manager for Weltec and holds a degree in Building Services Engineering from CIT. His role includes mitigation of risk and ensuring project commercial expectations are delivered whilst maintaining client relationships to develop repeat business. He has over 20 years’ experience in M&E construction including M&E Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, and Commercial Management. His projects have included semi-conductor, food processing, life sciences and pharmaceutical.
