Our client is a universal leader in electronics & communications with 45 years of manufacturing experience. During the last 8 years, Weltec Engineering has been the selected provider for electrical installation services in the client’s Irish operating facilities. The present project is the development of the LV power distribution system and to provide an N+1 criterion to all of the client’s campus-wide facilities.
Scope:
The scope of works involved the upgrade and provision of an N+1 criterion to four main LV distribution center hubs and the reconfiguration of a power synchronising and load sharing control system for three existing 1.1MVA generators and installation of two new 1.1MVA generators. All these generators having new G10 protection at each of the LV distribution boards while the generators are operating in mains parallel load. Works also involved the replacement of two existing 2MVA transformers and decommissioning of one 3.2MVA transformer.
All controls capability are done by touchscreen HMI, providing a full overview of control capabilities in association with the generator synchronising system. All synchronising control panels are network connected over a fibre-optic ring, with the infrastructure for Scada metering and control.
All MV/LV works were required to be carried out in a live 24/7 client operating facility, with shutdowns and changeovers completed with a minimum power outage period. All changeovers were micro planned to mitigate any risks to the client’s production operations and European communication network service.
